Dumb Parents Stole A Child’s Toys Then Challenged Cops To Check Their Criminal Records

I never expected a simple situation involving a child’s toys to turn into one of the strangest confrontations I had ever witnessed. My sister had recently moved into a new neighborhood with her husband and their young son, and they had been trying to settle into their new home. Their son had a collection of toys that he was extremely attached to, including several expensive action figures and a few limited-edition sets that he had collected over the years. One afternoon, my sister noticed that several of the toys were missing from the child’s bedroom. At first, everyone assumed they had simply been misplaced because the house was still being organized. They searched closets, storage boxes, and even the garage, but the toys were nowhere to be found. Eventually, they realized that someone had apparently taken them. There were no obvious signs of forced entry, which made the situation even more confusing. The family started thinking about who could have had access to the house and whether someone had taken advantage of the fact that they had recently been having neighbors and relatives over.
A few days later, my sister heard from another neighbor that a nearby couple had been showing off a collection of toys that looked remarkably similar to the missing ones. She didn’t want to accuse anyone based solely on that information, so she decided to investigate carefully. When she saw the toys herself, she immediately recognized several of them. They had the same unusual markings, packaging details, and small accessories that belonged to her nephew’s collection. When she politely asked the couple where they had gotten them, the couple became defensive. Instead of giving a straightforward explanation, they claimed that the toys belonged to their own child and accused my sister of trying to cause trouble. My sister explained that the toys had been missing from her son’s bedroom and asked if they could simply compare the items. The couple refused and became increasingly aggressive. They told her that she had no right to question them and even challenged her to call the police if she believed they had done something wrong.
That challenge turned out to be a mistake. My sister contacted the police and explained what had happened, including the fact that she had photographs of her son’s toys from before they disappeared. When the officers arrived, the couple immediately became confrontational. Rather than calmly explaining where they had obtained the toys, they insisted that the police had no reason to question them. One of them reportedly told the officers that they could check their criminal records if they wanted because there was “nothing” they would find. The officers didn’t respond emotionally. They simply asked both sides to explain their stories and requested proof of ownership. My sister showed them photographs of her son playing with the toys, receipts for some of the purchases, and pictures showing specific scratches and missing accessories that matched the items in the couple’s possession. The officers then asked the couple where their toys had come from. Their story began changing. At first, they claimed they had bought everything online. Then they said someone had given them the toys. When the officers asked for the person’s name or any proof of purchase, they couldn’t provide anything convincing.
The situation became even more uncomfortable when the officers began checking the couple’s information. The couple had been so confident when they challenged the police that they apparently believed there was nothing the officers could discover. However, the officers found that there were previous incidents associated with the couple, including reports involving disputes and accusations of taking property that didn’t belong to them. That information didn’t automatically prove they had stolen the child’s toys, but it certainly made the officers take the situation more seriously. When the couple realized that their own challenge had led the police to look more closely at their background, their attitude changed completely. They stopped demanding that the officers leave and started trying to explain why they had the toys. Eventually, one of them admitted that they had gotten the toys from another person but couldn’t provide a clear explanation for why the items matched the missing collection so closely. My sister was shocked because she had initially hoped there had simply been some misunderstanding.
In the end, the police collected enough information to investigate the missing toys properly, and my sister was able to provide documentation showing that several of the items belonged to her son. What stayed with everyone afterward wasn’t just the fact that the toys had disappeared. It was the couple’s strange decision to challenge the police to check their records when they could have simply explained where the toys came from. They seemed completely confident that nothing would happen, only to realize that their own words had encouraged the officers to look more closely. The child eventually got some of his toys back, although a few were still missing and the family had to deal with the larger issue through the proper authorities. For my sister, the biggest lesson was that people sometimes make a situation much worse for themselves by becoming unnecessarily confrontational. If the couple had simply answered the questions honestly from the beginning, the entire situation might have been handled very differently. Instead, what began as a dispute over a child’s missing toys turned into a police investigation that neither side expected.

Entitled family steals from us, and make the mistake of trying to blame us. They get in A LOT of shit
My main language isn’t english, this is my first post, i’m on phone, sorry for any formatting issues, etc, etc.
TL:DR: at the end.
Some backstory: i was 6 when this happened, and i was pretty good friends with the daughter of the Entitled parents at that time. (daughter was pretty Entitled as well) i had 6 dolls and a box i kept them in, that i was pretty attached to. I had gotten them over the span of 2.5 years. EK played at our house quite a lot, so i didn’t expect this to happen at all. On to the story!
Cast: Me: Me. D: my dad. M: my mom. ED: Entitled dad. EM: Entitled mom. EK: Entitled kid. PO: police officer.
It was summer, and i asked my parents if EK could come over, they said yes. A few minutes later, EM and EK arrived. EM started chatting with my parents, and EK and me went to play in the backyard. I proudly opened my box of dolls. EK and i both took some dolls and played pretend.
Skip to when EK had to leave. This is what i remember the conversation being like, it could be a little off.
EK: Can i keep this doll? I really like it.
Me: No, sorry. I don’t want to give any of them to others.
EK: But you have so many more!! One doll won’t make a difference!!
Me: Please give my doll back. (I had been taught that being rude was a big no no, so i was very polite, no matter how rude the other was.)
EK: MOOOOOOOM!!!!
EM comes running, looks at us, and turns to me.
EM: What did you do to my sweetie!
EK: i want all these dolls! Tell her they’re mine now!
EM: okay sweetie, (towards me): those dolls are hers now, give Them to me!
Me: no! They’re mine! Give Them back!
EM: SHUT IT BRAT, GIVE ME THOSE (censored) DOLLS.
I froze, i got scared and started crying. My parents heard this and walked to us. They see EK and me, both crying.
M: what’s going on here?
EM: YOUR IDIOT KID HIT MY BABY!!
M: What? I highly doubt that, my kid doesn’t hit other children unless she has a reason. Why don’t we ask both of them what happened.
EK: she said i could have all her dolls! But now she’s saying i can’t have them!!
EM: if my angel wants them, she gets them!
Me: I never said you could have them! You wanted to take them without permission!
EM loses it to me.
EM: SHUT YOUR (censored) MOUTH, YOU UNGRATEFUL (censored)
I started bawling. I can’t handle yelling or angry people well, and the automatic reflex is to start crying.
Both my parents are angry and are talking to EM on how she can’t Just make me cry and act like it’s not her fault. Meanwhile, EK has put all the dolls back in the box. But she didn’t leave then, she took the box, with ALL of the dolls, and runs away. EM runs after her. My parents ran after them, but they were already inside their own home. They lived in our street, we knew where they lived, so my dad (who is furious) goes to ring their doorbell. ED opens the door.
ED: yes?
D: give those dolls back! They are my daughter’s dolls!
ED: what? Dolls? I have no idea what you are talking about. (He fking SMIRKS and then slams the door in my dads face) My dad (who is fking FUMING) comes back home. He calls the police. Not soon after, the police are asking my parents what happened. A police officer walks towards me and kneels down.
PO: can you tell me what happened little one?
Me: my best friend stole my dolls and her mom yelled at me for not wanting to give them to her. Then they ran away with my dolls.
PO: thank you little one, we’ll get your dolls back, okay?
I nodded. After asking us what they wanted to know, the police went to the Entitled home. (From this part on, i wasn’t actually present, but my parents told me what happened) They ring the doorbell and EM opens the door. Seeing the police, with my parents behind them, she begins yelling at my mom.
EM: omg, not AGAIN. How many times must i tell you, you are not getting my angel’s toys!
PO: we were told your child and you stole a box of dolls from these people.
EM: that’s not true! They’re my daughter’s dolls, we bought them last week. Their daughter wants the dolls all for herself and her parents have been trying to get them from us for the whole week!
PO: may i see the receipt then? If you really bought them you should have a receipt.
EM’s face loses all color. (My dad loved this part, he told me he couldn’t believe this woman didn’t know that this would happen)
EM: Uhm, well… We lost the receipt! So, well… We can’t show you!
The police officers (there were 3 if i remember correctly) looked at each other, clearly not believing it. My mom grins and taps one of the officers on the shoulder.
M: the dolls haven’t been bought all at once, we have all the seperate receipts for them though. If you look at the dolls and the receipts, you should have enough proof that the dolls are ours.
The police accept this offer. EM was forced to get the dolls that instant. And, of course, the receipts showed the truth. EM looked furious. EK was crying as she saw her newly obtained toys dissapear. ED sees all this and tries to blackmail my fking dad.
ED: why do they get those toys? That man has stolen multiple things in the past! Those receipts must be stolen or forged!
The police looks from ED to my dad.
PO: that is completely irrelevant right now, but if you want a separate case, we can check all of your records.
EM turns pale after hearing this and tries to shush her husband, but he has already yelled “do that!” My parents went home to me (don’t worry, i wasn’t left home alone, my babysitter was quickly dialed in between so i wasn’t alone.) And i think about a week passes. After that week of peace, we hear police sirens. I, curious as i am, run to the front door and open it. I saw both EM and ED being cuffed, and EK was taken by (what turned out to be) Child Support. Apparently EM and ED had done a looooot of bad stuff. EM had apparently commited Theft 3 TIMES and had been arrested before due to abusing about 4 FUCKING ANIMALS AND 2 CHILDREN. ED had been commiting all kinds of Fraud and apparently he had all kinds of unpaid fines. I never saw any of them ever again.
TL:DR: mother and daughter steal my toys, mom and dad made the mistake of trying to get us arrested, get arrested themselves for all kinds of crimes they did in the past.
Thanks for reading everybody!
Several of My Nephew’s Favorite Toys Suddenly Disappeared
I never expected a dispute over a child’s toys to turn into a situation involving the police, angry parents, and a criminal investigation. It all started when my sister noticed that several of her young son’s favorite toys had disappeared from his bedroom. Her son had a large collection because he had been collecting certain action figures and special-edition sets for several years. Some were ordinary toys, but others were limited editions that were difficult to replace. He knew exactly where he kept them and usually took very good care of them. When several disappeared at once, he was understandably upset. At first, my sister assumed they had simply been packed away somewhere because the family had recently been reorganizing the house.
She and her husband searched almost everywhere. They checked closets, storage bins, the garage, the basement, and even boxes they hadn’t opened in months. Nothing turned up. Her son kept insisting that he hadn’t moved them and that they had been sitting on a particular shelf in his bedroom. Because there were no signs of forced entry, the family initially thought someone in the household had accidentally moved them. Nobody wanted to immediately assume that someone had stolen them.
A few days passed, and the missing toys still hadn’t been found. Her son became increasingly upset because some of the toys were especially important to him. He had saved birthday money to buy some of them, while others had been gifts from family members. My sister started looking through old photographs to identify exactly which items were missing. She also found receipts for several of the more expensive sets. At that point, she realized that if the toys had actually been taken, she had at least some documentation proving that they belonged to her son.
Then a neighbor mentioned something that caught her attention. The neighbor had apparently seen a nearby couple showing off a collection of toys that looked very similar to the missing ones. The couple had a young child of their own, so nobody initially thought much of it. Parents buy toys all the time, and there was no reason to assume their collection had anything to do with my sister’s missing property.
Still, my sister decided to take a look. She didn’t want to make a serious accusation based on hearsay. When she eventually saw the collection, however, she recognized several items immediately. One particular action figure had a tiny scratch on its base that her son had accidentally made years earlier. Another set was missing one small accessory in exactly the same way as her son’s set. There were also unique pieces that weren’t commonly sold separately.
My sister was now almost certain that the toys belonged to her son. She took photographs of the collection and compared them with the photographs she already had at home. The similarities were difficult to ignore. She decided the best approach was to speak with the couple calmly rather than immediately accusing them of theft.
When she approached them, she explained that some of the toys looked identical to items that had recently disappeared from her son’s room. She asked where they had gotten them and said that perhaps there had been some kind of misunderstanding. She deliberately avoided calling them thieves because she didn’t want the situation to become unnecessarily hostile.
Unfortunately, the couple did not react calmly. The mother immediately became defensive and said the toys belonged to her child. She accused my sister of trying to take things away from another child. My sister explained that she had photographs and receipts showing that the toys belonged to her son, but the woman refused to look at them.
The father then joined the conversation and became even more confrontational. He said my sister had no right to question them about their belongings. He insisted that they had purchased the toys themselves and that she was simply jealous because her son’s collection was expensive. My sister tried to explain that she wasn’t interested in their other toys. She was specifically talking about the items that had disappeared from her son’s bedroom.
Instead of providing receipts or explaining where the toys had been purchased, the couple told her to call the police if she thought they had done something wrong. They seemed completely confident that the police would take their side. My sister decided not to argue with them any further.
She contacted the police and explained the situation. She told the officers that she believed several of her son’s toys were in another family’s home. She also explained that she had photographs, receipts, and other information that could establish ownership. The officers agreed to speak with everyone involved.
When the officers arrived, the couple immediately became defensive again. They complained that the police had been called over “children’s toys” and insisted that they were being harassed. The officers calmly explained that the value of the property wasn’t the only issue. If someone had taken another person’s belongings without permission, the circumstances needed to be investigated.
My sister showed the officers photographs of her son playing with the toys before they disappeared. She also showed receipts for several purchases. In some pictures, the exact scratches and missing accessories were visible. The officers then asked the couple where their toys had come from.
Their first answer was that they had purchased everything themselves. The officers asked whether they had receipts. The father said he couldn’t find them. When asked where the toys had been purchased, he gave a vague answer about buying them online.
The officers then asked for more information. They wanted to know which website, approximately when the purchases were made, and whether there were transaction records. The couple couldn’t provide much. Their story started changing as more questions were asked.
At one point, the couple claimed that some of the toys had been given to them by a friend. When the officers asked who the friend was, they gave a name but couldn’t provide contact information. They then changed their story again and said some of the toys had been purchased secondhand.
My sister noticed that the officers were becoming more interested. They weren’t automatically accusing the couple of theft, but the inconsistent explanations were clearly raising questions. The officers carefully compared the toys with the photographs my sister had brought.
Then the father made what turned out to be a very unfortunate statement. He told the officers that they were wasting their time and that if they were so suspicious, they could check his criminal record. He said they wouldn’t find anything that would prove he had done something wrong.
The officers didn’t argue with him. They simply took note of what he had said. According to my sister, the couple seemed almost proud of the fact that they had nothing to hide. They continued insisting that the police were making a big deal out of nothing.
The officers then checked the information available to them. They discovered that the couple had previous police contacts involving property disputes and other incidents. That information alone didn’t prove they had stolen the toys, but it made the officers more cautious about accepting the couple’s changing explanations.
The couple’s attitude changed when they realized that their own challenge had encouraged the police to look more closely. They stopped making sarcastic comments and began asking whether they could simply explain everything. The officers reminded them that the investigation was about the toys currently in their possession, not just their past.
Eventually, the father admitted that he hadn’t personally purchased all of the toys. He said another person had given them to his family. However, he couldn’t provide a convincing explanation for why several of those toys matched items that had disappeared from my sister’s son’s room.
My sister was especially upset because her nephew had spent days wondering where his favorite toys had gone. He had repeatedly blamed himself for losing them, even though he hadn’t done anything wrong. Seeing the toys in another child’s possession was difficult for him.
The police documented the items and continued investigating how they had ended up with the couple. My sister provided all the photographs and receipts she had. Some of the toys were eventually returned, although there were still questions about the remaining missing items.
What surprised everyone most was how confidently the couple had challenged the police to check their records. They seemed to believe that doing so would prove their innocence. Instead, it encouraged the officers to take a closer look at the situation and ask more questions.
The incident became a lesson for my entire family. A disagreement that could possibly have been resolved with a simple conversation became much more serious because the couple refused to explain where the toys came from. Nobody expected a child’s missing toys to lead to police involvement, but once there was evidence that the items might belong to someone else, the situation couldn’t simply be ignored.
My sister said the most important thing was getting her son’s belongings back and making sure he understood that he hadn’t done anything wrong. The adults could deal with the investigation and the arguments, but for him, those toys represented years of memories and gifts from people he loved. What started as a few missing toys eventually exposed a much bigger problem, and the couple’s decision to challenge the police only made the situation more complicated.
