Immature Guy Takes Fake Pregnancy Prank Too Far, GF Dumps Him After He Sends Her Ultrasound Pics

Twenty-six-year-old Ethan had always considered himself the funny one in every room. Whether he was with friends, coworkers, or his girlfriend, Lily, he constantly searched for ways to make people laugh. Most of his jokes were harmless, and Lily initially appreciated his playful personality because it kept life entertaining. However, over the two years they had been together, Ethan’s sense of humor had slowly crossed into uncomfortable territory. He enjoyed elaborate pranks that often embarrassed people, and he rarely stopped to consider how his actions affected others. Lily had spoken to him several times about setting boundaries, explaining that jokes involving serious topics such as health, family, or finances were not amusing to her. Ethan would usually apologize, promise he understood, and then repeat the same behavior weeks later. Although their relationship remained stable on the surface, Lily had begun wondering whether Ethan truly respected her feelings or simply viewed everything as another opportunity for entertainment.
One afternoon, while Lily was working, Ethan texted her saying he had “life-changing news” that he could not wait to share. Curious and slightly nervous, Lily asked what had happened, but Ethan refused to explain through messages. Instead, he sent her a blurry black-and-white ultrasound image followed by a message claiming that another woman had contacted him, insisting he was going to become a father. Ethan wrote that he had only recently learned about the pregnancy and did not know how to tell Lily. The shocking messages immediately left Lily overwhelmed with confusion, sadness, and disbelief. She stepped away from work to process what she had just seen, wondering whether the man she trusted had secretly cheated on her. Her hands shook as she tried calling Ethan repeatedly, but he ignored every call while continuing to send vague messages suggesting that his life had become “very complicated.”
For nearly two hours, Lily experienced one of the most emotionally exhausting afternoons of her life. She replayed their entire relationship in her mind, searching for signs she might have missed. She questioned whether Ethan had been dishonest for months and even wondered whether their future together had completely fallen apart. Eventually, Ethan answered one of her calls but could barely contain his laughter. He admitted there was no pregnancy, no other woman, and no baby on the way. The ultrasound image had been downloaded from the internet, and the entire situation had been nothing more than an elaborate prank designed to see how she would react. Ethan expected Lily to laugh with him once she realized the truth. Instead, there was complete silence on the phone before Lily quietly ended the call without saying another word.
That evening, Ethan arrived at Lily’s apartment carrying flowers and her favorite takeout, assuming a small apology would quickly resolve the situation. He insisted she was being overly sensitive because “it was obviously a joke” and argued that nobody had actually been hurt since the pregnancy was fake. Lily calmly explained that the emotional pain she experienced during those hours was completely real. She described how she had cried in her office restroom, questioned her entire relationship, and struggled to concentrate because she genuinely believed Ethan had betrayed her. Rather than acknowledging her feelings, Ethan continued defending himself by saying she should have recognized the prank sooner. His refusal to accept responsibility frustrated Lily even more, convincing her that he still did not understand why his behavior was so damaging.
Over the following days, Ethan repeatedly apologized through text messages, promising he would never play another prank involving something so serious. However, Lily found it increasingly difficult to trust those promises because she had heard similar apologies before. Friends who learned about the situation were divided. Some believed Ethan had made an incredibly immature mistake that deserved forgiveness, while others argued that intentionally causing someone emotional distress for entertainment revealed a deeper lack of respect. Lily carefully reflected on the relationship and realized this incident was not an isolated event. It was simply the most extreme example of a long pattern in which Ethan prioritized getting a laugh over considering how his actions affected the people closest to him.
A week later, Lily invited Ethan to meet at a quiet café where they had shared many happy memories during the early stages of their relationship. Ethan arrived expecting another chance to repair things, but Lily calmly explained that she had made her decision. She told him she no longer felt emotionally safe in a relationship where trust could be sacrificed for the sake of a prank. She emphasized that healthy relationships require honesty, empathy, and mutual respect, none of which had been reflected in his actions that day. Ethan apologized once again and insisted he had finally learned his lesson, but Lily explained that rebuilding broken trust requires more than regret after the damage has already been done. She wished him well but ended the relationship before quietly walking away.
In the months that followed, Ethan admitted to several friends that losing Lily forced him to reconsider how he treated people. What he had always dismissed as harmless humor often came at someone else’s emotional expense. Meanwhile, Lily gradually moved forward with her life, focusing on friendships, career goals, and surrounding herself with people who respected her boundaries. Looking back, she realized the fake pregnancy prank had not destroyed an otherwise healthy relationship—it had simply exposed problems that had existed for much longer. The experience became a lasting reminder that trust is difficult to build, easy to lose, and that jokes involving betrayal, pregnancy, or deeply emotional subjects can carry consequences far beyond a momentary laugh.

AITAH for breaking up with a boyfriend (m33) over an unfunny prank
Okay so, I (f33) dated John (m33) about 8 years ago, so we were 25ish. It was almost a year long relationship, 10 months or so. A week ago was the first time I’ve seen John since, because we were both at a friend’s party who was celebrating that friend becoming a father. John got SUPER drunk and decided to tell anyone who would listen the story of how we broke up. After hearing it, mostly men were telling me I completely overreacted.
Here’s the story that started our breakup. John was staying at my place that night. I woke up and it was Saturday morning. I went downstairs to make a coffee. I heard him having a shower upstairs and he came down dressed and ready to go to work. I figured out he got confused and thought it was a work day. I didn’t say anything until he was putting his shoes on. I was repeatedly asking him “so what day is it?” Until he got a bit mad, looked at his smart watch and saw it was Saturday. He was quite mad at me and said it was a bad prank and he will “pay me back”.
The next day we were apart and he texts me “We need to talk. I’m so sorry, I got another girl pregnant” to which I replied something along the lines of: if this is your attempt of a pay back prank, consider it failed. After that, John double, triple and quadrupled down on it. He swore to everything he holds dear that it was true and even sent me a clearly fake ultrasound picture. I kept telling him: “dude, I don’t believe you, stop, you’re making this incredibly weird” He did not back down. After a full day of convincing me in vain I was so weirded out that I told him “well ok, if you’re having a baby with a mystery lady then we need to break up”. And he was like:”HAHAHAHA MY PRANK WORKED! BOOM! PRANKED!!!”
After this incident I was too weirded out by him, we broke up a few days later with him being completely unwilling to acknowledge he took it too far and framing it as “I just needed some more convincing to fall for it”.
8 years later, he’s clearly still hurt about it because he was telling everyone and basically doing a “poll” on who was wrong. Some people were coming up to me and telling me it was just a joke. So AITAH for breaking up with the guy over a bad prank?
The Couple Shared a Relationship Filled With Laughter
Twenty-six-year-old Ethan had always been known as the comedian of his friend group. He loved making people laugh and believed every situation could be improved with a joke. His girlfriend, Lily, had admired his playful personality when they first met because it made life feel exciting and spontaneous. During the early months of their relationship, his harmless jokes helped create countless happy memories.

As time passed, however, Ethan’s pranks became more elaborate and far less considerate. Instead of simple surprises, he began staging fake arguments, pretending to lose valuable belongings, and inventing dramatic stories just to see how people reacted. He often filmed these moments, hoping they would become funny videos to share with close friends.
Lily repeatedly explained that she disliked practical jokes involving serious subjects. She told Ethan that humor should never depend on causing someone fear, anxiety, or emotional pain. While Ethan usually apologized, he dismissed her concerns by saying she was simply too serious and needed to relax.
Despite these disagreements, the couple stayed together because they genuinely cared about each other. They had talked about moving into a larger apartment together and even discussed future plans like traveling abroad. Lily believed Ethan would eventually mature and understand where the boundaries should be.
One Thursday afternoon, while Lily was working at her office, Ethan decided to organize what he believed would become his funniest prank yet. He searched online for an ultrasound image that looked authentic and downloaded it onto his phone. He carefully planned every message before sending anything.
At exactly 2:30 p.m., Lily received a text saying, “I really messed up. We need to talk.” Before she could reply, Ethan sent the ultrasound picture followed by another message claiming a woman had contacted him to say she was pregnant with his child. Lily immediately felt her stomach drop.
Confused and heartbroken, Lily tried calling Ethan several times. Instead of answering, he ignored her calls and continued sending mysterious messages saying he didn’t know what to do. Every minute that passed made the situation feel more believable.
Unable to focus on work, Lily stepped outside the office building. She sat alone on a nearby bench trying to process what she believed was the end of her relationship. Tears filled her eyes as she wondered how long Ethan had been hiding such an enormous secret.
She replayed months of memories in her head, questioning every late night, every canceled plan, and every unusual text message Ethan had ever received. The more she thought about it, the more convinced she became that he had cheated on her.
Nearly two hours later, Ethan finally answered one of her phone calls. Instead of sounding worried, he burst into laughter. He proudly announced that there was no pregnancy, no other woman, and no baby. The ultrasound image had simply been downloaded from the internet.
Lily remained silent for several seconds. She had spent hours believing her future had fallen apart, only to discover it had all been entertainment for Ethan. Without saying a word, she quietly ended the phone call.
That evening, Ethan arrived at Lily’s apartment carrying flowers and her favorite takeout meal. He expected she would calm down once he apologized. To him, the prank had simply gone a little too far.
Lily invited him inside but remained emotionally distant. She explained how devastated she had felt while believing he had betrayed her. She described crying during her lunch break and struggling to concentrate because she thought her relationship was over.
Rather than immediately accepting responsibility, Ethan tried defending himself. He insisted it had only been a joke and argued that she should have realized it wasn’t real. His attempt to justify his behavior only made the conversation more painful.
Lily reminded Ethan that she had already asked him several times never to joke about serious life events. She pointed out that pregnancy, infidelity, illness, and death were not topics she found funny. Ethan had ignored those boundaries completely.
Over the following week, Ethan sent long apology messages every day. He admitted the prank had been immature and promised he would never repeat anything similar. He even asked several mutual friends to encourage Lily to forgive him.
Some friends believed Ethan deserved another chance because he clearly regretted his decision. Others argued that intentionally causing someone emotional pain simply for amusement reflected a deeper problem than one bad joke.
Lily spent several days thinking carefully about the relationship. She realized the fake pregnancy incident was only the latest example of Ethan ignoring her feelings. His apologies had become predictable, but meaningful change never followed.
Eventually, Lily invited Ethan to meet at a quiet coffee shop where they had enjoyed many dates together. Ethan arrived hopeful that this meeting would mark a fresh start for their relationship.
Instead, Lily calmly explained that she had decided to end things. She said she no longer felt emotionally secure with someone willing to manipulate her emotions for entertainment. Trust, once broken so completely, could not easily be rebuilt.
Although disappointed, Ethan finally accepted her decision. He admitted he had underestimated the emotional impact of his prank and recognized that laughter should never come at the expense of someone else’s peace of mind.
In the months that followed, Lily focused on rebuilding her confidence and investing more time in her career, family, and close friends. Ethan also reflected on his behavior and gradually realized that maturity meant understanding when something stopped being funny and started becoming harmful.
Looking back, both learned valuable lessons from the experience, though in very different ways. Lily discovered the importance of maintaining firm boundaries and walking away from relationships where respect was repeatedly ignored. Ethan learned that trust is one of the most valuable parts of any relationship, and once it is destroyed by dishonesty—even in the name of a prank—it can be impossible to recover.
